Volume 12: Second Kings, Part 21

By M E Rosson

Chapter four of second Kings is full of the miracles of Elisha and as he was journeying back to Gilgal, there was a drought and food was hard to come by. Elisha told his servant to gather food and put it in the pot, but other than wild gourds, vines and herbs, there was little growing.

The servant gathered what he did with good intentions when somebody tasted it, like you will see in kitchens around the world, when somebody makes a stew or sauce or soup, somebody will take a spoon and taste it. After tasting it, somebody asked the servant what he had put in the pot and obviously the wild vine or one of the gourds was poisonous. The man cries out, Oh Man of God, there is death in that POT! Elisha seemed very unconcerned and told them to put some meal in the pot and then told them it was okay to eat!

There is a growing movement in this Nation of ours to medicate ourselves. Drug and opioid use are at an all-time high, and then an old, natural herb, growing wild in some places has come to the people. Hemp, CBD, POT! The problem with legalizing these things is that people will actually believe that money made from these enterprises will benefit all of us. That this is the new cash crop of the 21st century.

The only real problem with medications such as this is they only mask pain and suffering and as the body builds resistance, more and more is needed making the addiction a sure thing. They don’t heal, they don’t solve anything, they just make people not care if it hurts or not, the same way opioids, or alcohol is used.

Now I know many of you will disagree with what I am saying, but understand this, masking your pain is not the same thing as healing. Elisha did not allow people to get poisoned and then give them an antidote, nor did he allow them to get poisoned and then give them something to numb the coming death, he used a common substance, that God told him to use to negate the effects of the poison. If you have a bad knee, you need surgery, therapy, exercise etc, not just something to give you the feeling that nothing is wrong and that is my point.

We all have a fatal condition called sin, and the world will run the gambit telling you all kinds of philosophies from there is no sin, to sin is not really a problem. People get religion, join movements and think that because they are sincere, they will be okay, but that is not what the Bible says:

1 Peter 1:18-20

18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

There is no cure for your sin other than Jesus! I am reminded of the song by the Gaither Vocal Band:

Come ye sinners, lost and lonely Jesus' blood can make you free. For he saved the worst among you When He saved a wretch like me

and I know, yes, i know, Jesus' blood can make the vilest sinner clean. and I know, yes, i know, Jesus' blood can make the vilest sinner clean.

Stop medicating and get a real cure, stop playing around with religion and philosophy and come to Jesus so that He can heal you from the sin that is just as poisonous as the death in the POT.

Elisha turned what could have been a tragedy, into a family meal and Jesus can save you from your sin if you will ask forgiveness and let his Blood heal you from your sinful condition.
