Are you Free to Serve or to Sin?
Free to Serve, Not Free to sin! April 25 21
Text: Galatians 5:13-18
13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
The Whole principle of Freedom, Liberty is personal choice. God made us with the ability to Choose. In The Garden, Adam and Eve had liberty to choose to serve or to sin. Daniel was made a captive by the Kingdom of Babylon, mutilated so that he could not have children and though he could have blended in and joined in the sin, Daniel Chose to serve. Adam and Eve had all the liberty and freedom and yet they chose to sin and Daniel was a slave, a prisoner of war and yet he chose to serve! The Galatians were free in Christ, saved by Grace and yet they like so many today thought that they were trapped into circumstances, addictions or forces unknown to continue in sins of the past, even though they were free to serve God! So how do you use your Freedom to serve, not sin? Our Key verse this morning tells us this:
16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
This morning I want us to embrace the freedom we have in Christ and I want to show you examples of those in the Bible who Chose to serve, not sin by walking in the Spirit of God! We shall also mention those who chose to not walk in the Spirit and they sinned instead of served!
