Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord
Text: Matthew 21:8-10
Matthew 21:8-10 King James Version (KJV)
8 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.
9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?
Let us Pray
Introduction:
Many of us know the story of Jesus Coming into Jerusalem that last time. Jesus allow the people to salute him as the coming King, knowing this would get the Romans attention and would allow Jesus to carry out the Mission he came to do on Earth. The Beauty of this statement is that it takes no responsibility for the actions of the one coming, it simply states that if you are truly coming in God’s name, then you should be blessed.
This morning I want you to see that there are motives behind what many people do, and that not all the people who say they come in God’s name, truly do. I also want you to know that today, there are no people here in our Church with agendas, anyone who is a member of our Church , in the midst of this controversy have certainly came in God’s name, or otherwise, you would be sitting at home worried that sickness or death would come knocking at your door. So I say unto you “Blessed is He or She who comes in the name of the Lord!”
So is every religious movement that comes down the pike from God?
Listen to what the Apostle John tells us:
1 John 4:1-3
4 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
Expound. There are many who speak the doctrines of devils and teach people false things from God’s Word. Remember the phrase, Fake News? There are Fakers out there who pervert or distort the message of God to millions of people around the World. They attempt to change the doctrines of marriage, the family, and even the message of Salvation, allowing people to think there is more ways to go heaven then previously thought?
But the Bible has a clear message about Salvation:
Acts 4:11-13 King James Version (KJV)
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
Expound the Gospel message; Remember, in a world with new disease and new ways to sicken and die, people more than ever before need a Savior, they need Jesus!
Jesus warned us about false teachers in these last times:
Matthew 24 King James Version (KJV)
24 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
Let us go back to our text:
Who were these people who cried out:
Matthew 21:8-10 King James Version (KJV)
8 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.
9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?
, but add that these same people were the ones who later were shouting:
Crucify Him!
They wanted a King, they wanted freedom from the Romans, but they did not want a Savior!
Conclusion: Those of you today, who have taken criticism and ignored the FAKE news, have followed in the Name of Jesus! Blessed are you! But those who have turned their backs on God and are afraid, we also ask God to bless them, like God blessed those Apostles who ran when Jesus was arrested! They were wrong, but the fear was understandable. We must not allow a spirit of fear to rule our lives, but put our Faith and Trust in Jesus. Blessed is He and She, who comes in the name of the Lord!
