Do you know God by Name?

Text: Psalm 9:1-11

9 I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.

2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

3 When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.

4 For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging right.

5 Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.

6 O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them.

7 But the Lord shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment.

8 And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.

9 The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

11 Sing praises to the Lord, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings.

One of my favorite praise songs is

Jesus, name above all names

Beautiful Savior, glorious Lord.

Emmanuel, God is with us.

Blessed Redeemer, Living word.

How many times has someone asked you if you know a certain person and you say, yeah, I know of them, I seen them once or twice at work, but it is different when you know people by name, which implies, that they also know your name.

This Psalm, written on the Death of Goliath, tells us much about David, that even though they are having a funeral, it is also a celebration of God vindicating David in his battle with the enemy:

This psalm for the defeated enemy acknowledges that our victory was not revenge, but Judgement on the evil….Sad for the enemy, but victory for the People of God. David would possibly sing this Psalm after every victory over the enemies of Israel. But the Key Notes are this:

David Praises God for Victory, but admits that this victory is only due to his cause being right and just.

Verses 1-4

That his victory was not revenge, for God shall ultimately judge the wicked verse 5-8

God will be a tower of refuge to those that put their trust in Him and that those who have put their trust in Him, are those who know His name! Verses 9-11

Don't Miss this special Service, we have Baptism's at the end of the service, but also you will learn that you have a special name from God, one that possibly you do not know that you have!
