The Fruit of the Spirit

Exactly What is the Fruit of the Spirit? May 2 2021

Text: Galatians 5:18-26

18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Introduction: How many times have you heard the phrase the Fruit of the Spirit? But even though you may have it and even exhibit in your life to some degree, you may not know Exactly what the Fruit of the Spirit is our how we can help it to Grow. Many of you are Planters of gardens, farmers and you even share your harvest with us here at Church. Some of you are very good at getting certain crops to grow and you know exactly what they need. I had a co-worker tell me recently that over the weekend she was going to get out and dig in the dirt and plant some flowers, vegetables and she said how much she enjoyed doing that and ask me, don’t you enjoy that and I told her that while I may have some talents, gardening is not one of them, that everything I plant usually dies….I have a black Thumb! She laughed and thought I was joking, but seriously, I am just not good at that. But our Father in Heaven knows exactly how the Spirit of God planted in you can bear fruit, and Paul was warning the Galatians that the things of the Flesh would hinder the growth of our Fruit. We usually think of fruit as people saved, but there are things going on inside of you since that Spirit of God was planted in you upon receiving Christ as your Savior, and those things have names. This morning we are going to discuss how a person gets the Spirit of God and then we are going to look at ways to grow fruit within yourselves and some things to avoid if you want that fruit to grow! A special welcome to our new visitors Sunday and I hope to see each and every member together this week, prayed up, praying for me and ready to Worship God!

Love you all,

Pastor Mark
