What does "Not Forsaking the Assembly together really mean?

Hebrews 10:25 King James Version (KJV)

25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

I am often asked by people what I think the interpretation of a scripture is? In todays culture of TV and Video Blog churches, there are many people who feel that they really don't need to go to a Church, that the Church is at their fingertips streaming anytime they want. A news story several months ago said that the Brick and Mortar Churches were dead because people will want a more "Seeker Sensitive" experience which includes going to special events at many churches and watching services online as schedule permits, even donating online to the place that ministers to you most that week!

All of this sounds so educated, so accepting and progressive that many Churches have moved to only one service, but WOW, what a service that is also streamed live and available to download! But we are missing the real point here, Church is not just about you and your family, Church is about ministering to all the families that are a part of that local body of Christ! You cannot serve the Lord by watching the Church service online! (This is not talking about the shut-ins, elderly or sick who cannot possibly get out to go!) Church is about service, not a service, or all the services or attending every time the doors are open, Church is about serving God by serving others!

So how can you avoid Forsaking the Assembly of ourselves together?

First, Ask God where He wants you to attend and then join that Church and become a Member!

Secondly, as a Member, become involved, Choir, Sunday School, Youth, Outreach, Music....wow, there are just so many wonderful ways to serve God in a local Church, Don't be a pew sitter, become a pew filler!

Lastly, be loyal to the Church God has called you to and resist the urge to run off to other Churches, every time they advertise a big event! These might be fine, but if you need to miss your own Church for them, ask yourselves if God would be pleased with us running off for our own pleasure or recreation or entertainment.

There is a big movement among many of the mega churches today to not even do a formal church membership and I believe that this is a mistake. Becoming a Church Member can be one of the most important choices you will ever make after Accepting Christ, WHY? Because this is where the discipleship rubber meets the Road!

So Remember, Pray about where God is leading you to attend and don't forsake your Church, because the Bible says the Church is the Bride of Christ! He said in Hebrews that He would never leave us nor FORSAKE us! We Owe Him so much more in return!

God Bless you and hopefully, we will see you soon!
