What is Your Foundation Made of?

The Psalm of a Firm Foundation

Text: Psalm 11

1 In the Lord put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?

2 For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart.

3 If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

4 The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord's throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.

5 The Lord trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.

6 Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

7 For the righteous Lord loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.

Let us Pray

Charles Spurgeon calls this the Psalm of the Steadfast! The Firm Foundation! David wrote this Psalm while fleeing from King Saul, being accused of a crime that he did not commit. How can the law be a foundation for society, when it is administered falsely for the whim of a guilty King?

Have you ever heard someone say, when something was done to them by another person, that’s alright, God is on His Throne and God sees what they are doing? David was being encouraged by those about him to flee like a bird to a high mountain, and yet, David was saying that he was built upon a foundation of Righteousness, of doing the right thing! If David would abandon his righteous cause, then the whole foundation of his life would be destroyed! The Foundation of David was Faith in God and His protection! “There is no Word like Impossible in the language of Faith, Faith knows how to fight evil and conquer doubt and fear, but Faith does not know how to Flee!” This week I want you to explore your own foundation, faith in God or trust in yourself! Do you have a firm foundation built upon the Rock? Or have you built your entire life upon sand?

“There is no Word like Impossible in the language of Faith, Faith knows how to fight evil and conquer doubt and fear, but Faith does not know how to Flee!”
